Adding the FUNK in Functional

Share:

Who says a white board has to be the regular ol' white board? While I was gaining inspiration for a slew of projects and DIY tutorials I kept coming across these really functional items that could serve as a repurposed _____________ (fill in the blank) which got me thinking. Why does a white board always have to be the regular ol' white board? We paint walls with chalkboard paint these days and use dry erase markers on our windows in the office. There has to be a better designed way to be functional in my everyday life.

This is an enamel table top - hang this beauty on your wall horizontally and you have yourself a new white board. Putting the FUNK in Functional.

An old laundry cart or your indoor garden? Perhaps your old school Foursquare ball storage. You have a tournament in 30 minutes.

Your printer station is more acquainted with dust bunnies than form or function. Ehum. Set your {wireless} printer atop this small file cabinet, store it's supplies in it's drawers and keep the bottom two drawers your secret hiding place for that 3 o'clock chocolate craving, petty cash, surplus office supplies (pens, staples, tape etc) and business card storage. Recycle those boxes already.

I have no idea what this is other than pretty. I love the color and if you'd fasten it to your wall the other way around (it's a funnel of some sort) you can cap the funnel and have your visitors throw in their business cards. Or make it your handy-dandy-candy dish. Need a place to keep your pens at your desk top? Do you have a wall near you? DONE! I personally would stock it with Atomic Fire Balls, screw two small holes in the funnel and insert a chop stick as a trap door. Someone wants a candy? Pull the chopstick and win the lottery of FIRE BALLS. I love it.

I am in love with old, industrial (minimalist) tables. Or structures. This one would play beautifully alongside some modern office furniture (see the Turnstone product section for ideas). Keep it peeling-green. You can resurface the top and use it as your coworking table in the office (with stools) or your work table if you're a hands-on shop. Retail? Well, this is your POS counter. Or your favorite (NFS) display case. If you're a chef, pay someone to give it some height and you just found your island.

How about you - what adds the FUNK in Functional when you look around your work space? I hope it's unexpected! Tell us!

I’ve got an old steamer trunk that I use as a stand for my floor lamp to give it an extra boost in height. It’s also a great place to store extra office supplies.
