Creative Flooring
It is a simple fact of life; everybody uses floors.
Unfortunately, many office floors are dull, dirty, and uninspiring. You might work in an office that has extremely outdated carpet or carpet that legitimately looks like the doldrums manifested in carpet. Many offices maintain what the building originally installed or update the look from being 30 years out of date to a mere 20. Talk about depressing:
Luckily, in today’s office there are literally limitless possibilities with regard to what you can do with a floor. Here are the main categories:
- Carpeting - The standard in office flooring does not have to be awful with manufacturers like Chicago-based FLOR whose products are easy to choose and install. So easy in fact that you won’t have to worry about lugging huge rolls of carpet around because their products generally come in easy to handle squares.
- Hardwood - Hardwood flooring can be expensive, but if it is the look you want, nothing is better. Some companies are using reclaimed wood, other use synthetic products, and others rip out their old floors to find wonderful original wooden floors. One great thing about wooden floors is that they are basically timeless and do not go out of style.
- Cement - Many companies have decided not to cover their cement with carpet or wood, but instead have used sealer. If you like the raw and industrial look, this might be an option. Some companies move into old industrial sites with stains or paint on the floor and have chosen to seal the floors to keep some of that history alive.
While choosing a type of flooring that looks great, there are a few other items to consider before making your final choice:
- Is it sustainable?
- How easy is it to clean?
- Will it be loud when people walk on it?
- How long will it last?
- Can chairs roll easily on it?
- Does it fade in sunlight?
