3 Things Your Office Guests Would Love
When I profile offices, it’s not only my job to analyze the design of the office but to think about all elements and things about the space. Because of this, I do it even when I’m just visiting an office. I would say there is a scale of 1-10 of likeability. 10 obviously being the best and 1 being the worst. What gets you closer to 10? Let me share.
A Candy Bowl
I hate to say it but I instantly am happier to find a candy bowl in an office space. I may have walked in without an opinion but the minute I find they have a nice bowl of candy; you get extra points in my book. For some offices it can be a problem, but if you keep the bowl to the reception/waiting area, employees and co-workers should know it’s meant for guests and clients. Office guests may like you that much more as they snack on a Hershey’s kiss.
Nice Receptionist
Okay, I know this seems obvious but make sure that your receptionist is nice to EVERYONE, not just clients. Here is a great example: I walk into an office and tell the receptionist whom I am there to see. She responds politely and asks me to take a seat. An intern comes through to ask her a question and she barks a response to him. Your clients will notice this as I did and it’s not a good thing.
Water
Does this one seem obvious too? It may or may not be something you already do but offering a bottle of water is what I wish every office would do. A flimsy paper cup from the water cooler that tastes like half plastic/cardboard isn’t refreshing or nice. It’s a great gesture but be sure to offer guests a bottle of water that they can take into the meeting and on their way out. They’ll appreciate it more than you think.
I didn’t go through this list so you could make your waiting area more comfortable for me. I did it so that all your guests, clients and friends who come into your office will be just as delighted as I was when I came across an office that had all three of those things.
