Out with the Old, in with the New

by Sayeh Pezeshki

You’ve decided it’s time to give your company office space a new look but you don’t have the budget yet for a total overhaul. That’s not a problem and it’s exactly why accessories are your best friend. It’s the first thing I think about when I want to do a quick change in a space without it costing a fortune. I have to warn you though; there is such a thing as over-accessorizing. I’ve walked into spaces where every nook and cranny was stuffed with some sort of decorative item. That’s definitely not what you want to do. However, here is what you should do.

1. Pillows-so simple yet easily over looked

Add them to your couches/guest seating in all parts of the office. I always choose pillows that fall in line with the company brand or scheme of the office space itself. Decorative pillows with patterns and bright colors are my favorite, like the one below.

2. Rugs-Instantly change a room

I love seeing the transformation of a space when I add a rug to the normally boring beige carpet. It may seem silly to put a rug on top of carpet but the key here is that a rug that takes up most of the floor in any part of a space will change the way the space looks. I’ve seen it not only in my own home office, but in other offices too. What I’m trying to tell you here is, add a rug.

3. Wall Decals-Don’t be afraid

Hanging art on the wall can not only be a hassle but the clean up may end up costing you money you could have kept in your pocket or put towards a company picnic. Say hello to wall decals. They’re usually easy to hang up, ¼ of the price of framed art and they can make tremendous changes in an otherwise dull looking space. A recent office I profiled had painted their conference room walls teal and added a neat tree/birds set of wall decals. This is exactly the sort of thing I’m talking about.

4. Cool Office Supplies & Accessories-You and your employees need them

No sense in making all these changes if you end up keeping the same cheap, dull desk accessories. Neither you nor your employees need to keep gray plastic or plain manila anywhere near your newly accessorized office space. Switch out every thing you can on your desktop for something a bit cooler and that can fit into the new look. You’ll be happy you did.

Ready, set, go!

Now you’re off to a good start and you’ll most likely be emailing me a thank you note wink. No need to do so, just enjoy the change of scenery and the delight your employees will share from the new look of their workplace.
