Employee Move Guide
Not only is packing up your office the most labor intensive aspect of your move, it can also be the most stressful. Before you even touch a box or arm yourself with the packing tape gun, here are a few things that can help make your packing adventure a little more palatable.
Hold a Purge Party.
Before you pack, purge. Gather your team together and decide what can stay and what needs to go. If you haven’t looked at it in over 2 years, then goodbye. Make sure to have at least one big trash bin, and an even bigger recycling bin at the ready.
Box What you are Keeping.
Give each employee a box labeled with their name. Any communal stuff should be boxed up and labeled too. Boxes can be found at grocery stores or at the links below:
LABEL, LABEL, LABEL! Every box needs a name, date, and what’s inside written on all sides. If you’re moving in shifts, color code things depending on which shift they’re moving. Being clear and concise makes finding things after the move that much easier.
How are you Moving?
A lot of stuff? Then hire a company to help you move. If you only have a few things, maybe your intern’s truck will work, but plan this out and don’t over-estimate your capacity to move large items.
Timeline.
Stage your move. It will help you get items from point A to B and in one piece. Planning this out for all employees to see helps facilitate as well.
It's a Team Effort.
The more the merrier. Have a clear plan and make that known to your employees. If they know the plan, then everyone can pitch in and help get things done quickly and with no confusion.
